Young people with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome face a significantly increased risk of serious mental health conditions, including psychosis. Dr Maria Rogdaki at King's College London and the Francis Crick Institute is investigating how this genetic condition affects the brain, using brain imaging techniques along with brain cells grown in the laboratory.
Her research aims to give us a clearer picture of why some young people with the deletion develop psychosis while others do not, paving the way for more personalised treatments and offering hope to families facing an uncertain future.
