£2,200, some very red faces and a bare bottom….. What do they all have in common? They were all part of the Max Appeal! Golf Day! The sun shone (eventually!) on the 19th June at Abbey Park Golf and Country Club in Redditch, Worcestershire whilst 50 golfers limbered up for the day’s golfing that lay ahead.
The turn out was fantastic, with golfers travelling from London, Manchester as well as throughout the Midlands area with the winning golfers receiving complimentary golf days at The Belfry, Forest of Arden and Warwickshire courses.
In addition, thanks to the tremendous sponsorship support received from businesses, we were able to offer prizes on all holes – so there were lots of opportunities to grab a prize.
The golfers were in great spirits, even the ones that took three or four (or even six!) shots to get out of the bunkers! …. mmm… wonder how much ransom we could get for the video of the first tee shots??!!
For family members who managed to make the day, we set up a play area, complete with TV and video, to entertain the kids - although they were far more interested in running around the hotel grounds! It was a great opportunity to meet some new families and also see families who we had met before. By all accounts, a great day was had by all. The golfers came back red faced from the sun (or maybe it was that tee shot on the eighteenth that ended up in the trees??!) with many a tale to tell.
The day ended with a three-course meal, with the prize-winners ceremony being held during this. Congratulations go to Ashley Clarke (winner of the putting competition), James Hyde and John Howard (best gross score) and Marc Edwards and Ross Goodman (best net score).
The raffle finished the evening, with some very dodgy dealings going on at a couple of tables, as they seemed to be winning all of the prizes!! A staggering £2,200 was raised for Max Appeal! and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
So what about the bare bum? Well, after most people had gone home, a certain young man decided that more cash needed to be raised. He offered to run naked around the eighteenth green if poor unsuspecting golfers, who had gone to the bar for a quiet drink, stumped up enough cash…. He raised an extra £75! And he went through with this promise (or should that be threat?!).
A huge thank you to our sponsors and all who took part in the day, it really was an event to
remember. Here’s looking forward to next year!
