Robin’s Mum, Jennie, has kindly written in to share her recipe for fussy kids with constipation!
Robin’s constipation was so bad when he was in ICU at Alder Hey that doctors decided to check him for Hirshprung’s disease

Jennie writes:
I give Robin a bit of this mixture every day, and although he is really fussy with most of his food, he really likes this mixture. I think it looks and tastes a bit like cake mixture. Robin is now regularly emptying his bowels without too much effort. This has also helped his appetite for other foods to increase as well. Personally I think this mixture is so helpful it should come on prescription!
Apart from constipation, Robin’s DiGeorge Syndrome has caused Tetralogy of Fallot, a weaker immune system, slower physical development and glue ears to mention a few of his health concerns. He is however a lovely, cheerful boy with a pleasant personality, and a loving nature. Robin especially likes toy cars, Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine and Fireman Sam. Ahhh!
(Ed: Thanks Jennie, I am certain that many Mum’s will blue tack this to their fridge door! It was nice to meet you at the AGM!)
Method:
1. Soak the muesli and raisins in some milk in the fridge for approximately two hours or overnight, so that the muesli is nice and soft.
2. Blend this mixture or run it through a baby mill/Moulin Legume.
3. Add the rest of the milk.
4. Whisk in the four packets of Angel Delight.
5. Spoon the mixture into food bags or baby food jars.
6. Leave a pot/bag of the mixture in the fridge, freeze the rest.
You will need:
40z muesli mixed with raisins (take note, this may contain nuts. It’s the oats which are important.)
2 pints of full fat milk (full fat for skinny kids).
4 packets of chocolate flavour Angel Delight (supermarket own brands work just as well as do other flavours).
A “Moulin Legume” / “baby mill” or food blender. A large mixing bowl, whisk, spoon and plenty of clean baby food jars / small containers / food bags with ties.
