INTRODUCTION
2010 - A Busy Year of Max Appeal Events Ahead!
If you are already a Max Appeal member, you should have have received details of our first events of this year. If not, do please contact us for further details.
Heading into February, Tracey Hennighan is putting together a pony riding day on Tuesday 16th February in Cambridgeshire. There are 3 places left for this event at the time of writing, so contact Tracey if you would like to go along. There has long been a demand for pony riding elsewhere in the country as Gloucestershire is too far for many of you to travel. Tracey has valiantly taken this on board and volunteered to organise a day in her region which will hopefully become as regular an event as the ever popular horse riding sessions in Gloucestershire (next dates of Gloucestershire riding are Sunday 28th March and Sunday 13th June). So a huge thank you, Tracey, for this!
We have a few places left at Max Appeal’s very first Ski Day! This is a free event and if you would like to come along and have a go at dry slope skiing, please contact Susie urgently (deadline Monday 22nd February) for the forms, which you can fill in on line and send to Susie; We are very excited about this event and are running it in conjunction with Disability Snowsport UK who are able to provide qualified instructors at five different centres around the country. This effectively means that Max Appeal is able to hold a national event – in Glasgow, Manchester, Tamworth, Hemel Hempstead and Aldershot – all on one day, with hopefully an event being within relatively easy reach of everyone to cut down on travel time and, all importantly in the current economic climate, cost. If this event proves successful, it is hoped that we might be able to organise more regional events in the future.
An event which has become a regular feature of the Max Appeal calendar thanks to stalwart volunteers Chris and Lynne Anderson, is the Family Camping weekend, which this year will take place over the weekend 26th and 27th June in Kirby Lonsdale, in beautiful Cumbria.
You will no doubt be hearing a great deal, and hopefully many of you will be able to come along to, our next event: The International Conference at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. This is a very exciting event for us all and we have lots of wonderful activities lined up for children and youngsters who might be coming along, but not wanting to listen to the lectures.
Our residential weekends in 2009 were a great success and, from all the feedback, you would all like more! So we have provisionally booked the weekend of 11th and 12th September 2010 for some more “Splash Camp” at South Cerney in Gloucestershire. Fingers crossed for some lovely sunshine!
So that takes us to the autumn, by which time I'm sure there will be more to tell you about.
The phone number for Susie has changed and is now 07940 296265 and not as previously. You may get an answerphone, but please do leave a message if so and I will get back to you.
If you would like to meet up with people in your area on an informal basis, or to organise a meeting yourself with the help of MaxAppeal (we can help with advice and some funding), please do get in touch with any of the trustess or Susie. (susie@maxappeal.org.uk)
Do keep checking this page for other events and more details of those already listed. Hope you will be able to get along to some of the events.
Please do contact the helpline or contact through the website for any urgent issues if Susie is not available.
If you are a regular visitor to the site and want to know about these and other events and meetings coming up for 2010, please go to the links under "EVENTS" to the left. If, though, you are new to our site - welcome! - and would like to know more about our activities as the family support side of MaxAppeal, please read on.....
MaxAppeal hold meetings and age specific events throughout the year for families to get together and have fun whilst hopefully gaining strength, knowledge and support from meeting others and forming friendships with those in similar situations. Susie and Robert, Rowena, Jacky, Tracey and Chris amongst others have run events that really are for all the family, so don't forget the brothers, sisters, grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins if they would like to come along too! Don't forget that we also have an online Yahoo! group that can be used for members to chat with each other.
Support group meetings and pony riding are all free of charge, although we do sometimes ask for donations.
Please keep checking this page regularly for the latest news of what we are up to.
